Alberta (Berta) Lucas, 83, died at her home in Valdosta, on Monday, January 31, 2005 after a long illness. Born in Statenville on October 11, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Payton and Mineva Holton Swilley. Mrs. Lucas was a homemaker who loved to cook and plant flowers in her yard and garden. She enjoyed her family and friends, country music and watching Atlanta Braves Baseball.
Survivors are her daughter and son in law, Faye and Eddie Leake of Valdosta; grandchildren, Donald (Sonja) Corbett, Sarina (Dan) Bennett, Robert (Kelly) Simpson all of Valdosta, James (Terri) Lucas of Hopewell, Virginia; great grandchildren Carl Bennett, Robert Simpson, Jr., Ashley Corbett, Kyle Simpson, Kat Corbett, Clayton Lucas and Julia Lucas of Valdosta; sisters, Lotie Null of Lakeland, Blanche Swilley of Tennessee; brother, Jimbo Swilley of Florida; special friends, K.V. and Marie Gibson. Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by her husband, James Noble Lucas, and sons, James Noble Lucas, Jr., and Donald Pete Saunders.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Lake Park Cemetery with Reverend Carlton Allen officiating.
