Alan Wade Cothron, Sr., 59, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at his home after a lengthy illness. Born in Valdosta, on May 11, 1956, he was the son of Maxine Coody Cothron and the late James (Jim) Cothron. Mr. Cothron was a farmer and a member of the Georgia Farm Bureau Board. He was a member of Redland Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Karen Cooper Cothron of Valdosta; daughters and sons in law, Stacy and Jared Dickey of Valdosta, Katrina and Andrew Chaney of Valdosta; a son, Wade Cothron of Valdosta; his mother, Maxine Cothron also of Valdosta; grandchildren, Kayden Dickey, Rylen Dickey, Karley Gail Bruhl, Kipton Chaney all of Valdosta; sisters, JoAn Mathis of Dasher, Patsy and Gene Stewart , Becky Sims and Renee and Tommy Jackson all of Valdosta; and his loving canine companion, Gidget.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Redland Baptist Church at 11:00 o'clock a.m. Pastor Jay Watkins will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 o'clock a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redland Baptist Cemetery Fund, 5930 Cothron Lane Valdosta, Georgia, 31601 or to alsa.org, The ALS Association PO Box 6051 Albert Lea, Minnesota 56007.
