Al Holliman, 79, of Pascagoula, Ms., died Sunday, September 18, 2005, in Pascagoula. He was a member of Central Church of Christ, serving as an elder and deacon for more than 35 years. He retired in 1992 from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 30 years of service.

Mr. Holliman was an only child and was preceded in death by his parents Robert Lewis and Minnie Holliman.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Imogene S. Holliman of Pascagoula; his son and future daughter-in-law, Hamilton Neal Holliman and Debi Vaughter, of Dewey, Okla; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda H. and Troy Carter of Thurmont, Maryland; grandchildren Madison Lee Carter, 7, and Caleb Clifton Carter, 9; step-grandchildren Cory Vaughter, 9, and Christian Vaughter, 11; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Al had many priorities. Most important were: Serving God as an elder in the church, serving his family, and serving his community in various activities.

Al had other special priorities. He started as a Boy Scout of America at 10 years of age in Georgia, staying involved in scouting, and having earned the Silver Pine Burr and Silver Beaver awards, which is the highest honor given to a volunteer. He was also a lifetime National Eagle Scout member.

Al graduated from Valdosta High School, playing football for the VHS Wildcats under Coach Wright Bazemore. He was granted the Congretional Appointment to the Naval Academy in Maryland. He attended six years of college, going to Georgia Tech., the University of Georgia, Birmingham Southern College and Louisiana State University.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Funeral Services will be 11 am Wednesday, September 21, in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, John Dobbs, Grady Weston, and Dorice Mitchell officiating. There will also be a graveside service at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 22, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, Georgia.
