Adrene Morgan Wheeler

Adrene Morgan Wheeler, 92, of Valdosta died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. She was born in Cairo, Georgia on August 16, 1919 and had lived in Valdosta since 1950. Mrs. Wheeler accepted the Lord at an early age and was active at Cairo First Baptist Church while growing up. Mrs. Wheeler graduated from Cairo High School and worked at the Cairo Five and Dime where she met her future husband, the late R. James Wheeler whom she married on April 1, 1940. She managed The Style Shop in Cairo during World War II. She played the piano and taught Sunday School at Pine Level Baptist Church in Grady County before moving to Valdosta where she worked with the husband at Valdosta Mattress Company. Mrs. Wheeler joined the Lee Street Baptist Church in Valdosta where she was active in the WMU and was a dedicated Christian who took part of whatever was being done for the church. She was a charter member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She was active in the Valdosta Camellia Society where she won many awards. Mrs. Wheeler enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, sewing and her flower gardens.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Jim and Susan Wheeler of Valdosta, one sister, Voncille Elkins of Thomasville, brother and sister in law, Irvin and Marian Morgan of Brantley County, GA., two sisters in law, Amanda Hicks of Thomasville, Nell Wheeler of Panama City, Fla.,, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. James Wheeler and her parents Homer and Janie Gordy Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Alford and Rev. Charlie Scarborough officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10am until service time at the funeral home.
