A. David Arnold, 78, of Lake Park, passed away at home peacefully on May 1, 2021. David was born in Valdosta on November 6, 1942 to the late Grover Cleveland Arnold and Anna Clairece Brown Arnold. He graduated high school from Georgia Christian Academy and attended Freed-Hardeman University. He was a faithful member of the Lake Park Church of Christ. David majorly enjoyed gospel singing and going to gospel concerts, Alabama football, the Atlanta Braves, the Valdosta Wildcats, and golf. His minors were Lowndes Vikings and Georgia Football. He retired as Captain of CID with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department in 2008 with 37 years of service. Captain Arnold was officer of the year 4 times. He also was recipient of the Lee Anthony Crews Award. David is in the Hall of Fame Valdosta Red Sox as catcher. He was a member of the Francis Lake Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Sharon Smith of Millport, AL; his daughters and sons-in-law, Clara Leigh Rogers (Jeff), of Chattahoochee Hills, GA, and Julie Ann Wilson (Demond) of Valdosta; his brother and sister-in-law Jerry Arnold (Yvonne) of Riverview, FL, and sister-in-law Wonda Arnold, of Valdosta, brother-in-law Rabon Sutton, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the doctors who assisted in David’s care. Especially, Dr. Sandy (“Motorcycle Lady”) and the nurses and staff at U.S. Renal Care on North Valdosta Road.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 10am at Dasher Cemetery with Mr. Marvin Greene and Mr. Jerry Herring officiating.
