A. Colin McRae, 73 of Valdosta, died on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Born on November 6, 1932 in Brooks County, he was the son of the late John Knox and Annie Lou Bowen McRae. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and taught in the Junior Sunday School Department for 45 years. Mr. McRae owned and operated McRae Development and worked as a construction contractor for over 40 years in this area. He has served in the Valdosta North Rotary Club, on the Boys Club Board and was on the Board of Directors of the Mailbox Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ramsey McRae of Valdosta who he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage with on August 19 of this year; a daughter Carol Ann McRae of Watkinsville; son and daughter-in-law, Colin, Jr. and Allison McRae of Lawrenceville; two grandchildren, Jeremy Redding-Knox Platt of Watkinsville, Madison McRae of Lawrenceville; sister, Maxine McRae Lewis of Quitman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Mac Weaver and Dr. Phil West officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
