Walter Leon Wingate, Jr.

Walter Leon Wingate, Jr., 61, of Valdosta died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at his home. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 21, 1954 and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mr. Wingate was a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ and former salesman for Consolidated Electric District. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and baseball and was a former member of the Valdosta Red Sox's. He was a Man of God who enjoyed quoting scripture and loved his children more than himself.
Survivors include his daughter, Lindsey and John Ryan McAllister of Ocean Springs, MS; his son, Travis Scott Wingate and Tyrone Perreria of Toronto, Canada; his grandchildren, Bracken Scott McAllister and Maggie Grace McAllister both of Ocean Springs, MS; his mother, Comalea Wingate of Albany, GA; his sister, Comalea Rich of Albany, GA; stepbrother, Dennis Rich and his family; mother of his children, Lynn (Roger) Christie of Hahira. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Leon Wingate, Sr.
Memorial services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, July 24, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
