Thomas “Tommy” Cowart, 55, of Hahira, died on Sunday, August 20, 2023, following an auto accident. Born in Hahira to Jo Beth Cowart and the late Ronald Gerald Cowart, Sr., he grew up in Hahira and attended Lowndes County Schools. He graduated from Lowndes High School in 1986. During his high school years, Tommy developed an interest and great skill in clogging. He clogged with the Clogging Express Group that represented the United States at a festival in Switzerland and was a part of the first group to clog in the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. After a few years of clogging, he returned to college and got a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta (now Kennesaw State University) in the early 1990’s. After graduation, he went to work at Siemens Corporation for a brief time before returning to Valdosta to work with his family at Cowart Electric. At Cowart, Tommy worked in sales and installation of water treatment systems in the Water Treatment part of Cowart Electric. Tommy loved his family and enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with his dogs.
Survivors include his mother, Jo Beth Cowart of Hahira; his aunt and uncle, Gwen & Steve Couch of Hahira; an uncle Robert Taylor, also of Hahira. Also surviving are special cousins, Steve & Charity King and their children, Reed King, Austin Carpenter and Ethan Carpenter and many other relatives, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, his brother Ronnie Cowart, Jr., his grandparents, Gladys Taylor, Thomas Hayes, and Ulmer & Jewell Cowart.
The funeral for Tommy will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Elder Thad Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:30 am until service time.
