Thomas E. Chitty passed away at South Georgia Medical Center on Monday, November 23, 2015. He was born in Lowndes County, Georgia to Botie Quinn Chitty, Sr. and Bernice Oliver Chitty. His ancestors settled in Lowndes County and Echols County, Georgia as pioneers. His paternal grandparents were Rachael Moore and James Chitty, who was a charter member and minister at Unity Primitive Baptist Church. His maternal grandparents were Laura Jester Oliver Price and William L. Oliver. Mr. Chitty was baptized with a confession of faith at Lee Street Baptist Church by Dr. Grady Faegin. He was active in the choir and the music ministry for many years. He graduated from Valdosta High School, attended Valdosta State College and graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Georgia Red Coat Band. His love for music lasted a lifetime and he entertained many throughout Georgia and Florida. Mr. Chitty was employed in banking and finance most of his life. He served with the Army National Guard for over 20 years. He enjoyed the game of tennis and made many lasting friendships through tennis. An avid reader, he loved studying history and sharing this enjoyment for many years with his brother, Botie.
Mr. Chitty rejoiced in the fact that God made available to us an eternal life and looked forward to reaping the reward given to all who believe and accept Christ as their savior. He embraced and continually marveled in God's many creatures and creations.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and a sister in law, Oliver Chitty, Botie Quinn Chitty, Jr. and Joyce Wood Chitty, and his parents. He is survived and his memory will be cherished by his wife, Rita, his nephew, Thomas Wood Chitty, his nieces, Ann C. Chitty, Elaine Anderson (Bart) and their children, Mary Katherine and Wills; three sisters in law, Gail Cason, Beverly F. Vickers and JoAnn Leonard.
A private graveside interment will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Carson McLane Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Chitty.
