Richard A. Williams

July 28, 1937 — April 10, 2013

Richard A. Williams, 75, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Bill Blanchard and Pastor Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m.
Mr. Williams was born in Ft. Myers, Florida, on July 28, 1937, the son of the late Lionel and Leona Williams. He met his wife, Norma in South Bay, Florida and spent his early career years in the St. Pete/Clearwater, Florida area. Mr. Williams began his career in the grocery business with Winn Dixie and later became store manager in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1973 he moved to Valdosta where he worked for a grocery foods company, retiring as a sales representative for General Mills. Richard had many varied interests such as shooting sports, hunting, fishing, archery, riding motorcycles with family and friends, building and flying radio controlled airplanes and sailing. In the 1960's Mr. Williams obtained his private pilot's license and enjoyed the field of experimental aircraft. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Norma of Valdosta, sons and daughters in law, Rick and Roni Williams of Tampa, Jerry and Frances Williams, Stewart and Barbara Williams, Alan Williams of Valdosta; brothers and sisters in law, Dan and Joan Williams of Ormond Beach, Florida, Ken and Bridget Williams of Safety Harbor, Florida, Ben and Barbara Williams of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandchildren, Darren (Jessica) Williams, Andrew (Miranda) Williams, Brandon (Ashley) Williams of Valdosta, Nick, Brittany and Megan Williams of St. Petersburg, Florida, Sheli Bittner of Zephyrhills, Florida, Erin and Daniel Williams, Jennifer (Danny) Barrett of Valdosta, Kimberly (Michael) Grosvenor of Valdosta; thirteen great grandchildren; brother in law, Ron and Ilse Lovell of Palm Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Alan Williams and his parents in law, Roy and Jewel Lovell.
