Michael Shea Cowger, 22, of Hahira, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 31, 1993, in Fort Wainwright, AK, a son of Josh Cowger and the late Crystal Morrison Cowger. Michael was a member and trumpet player of the Georgia Bridgemen, graduating from Lowndes High School with the Class of 2011. He continued his education and graduated Cum Laude and with Honors from Valdosta State University with two Bachelor's Degrees. He truly never met a stranger and was always the class clown.
Michael is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Buchner Cowger of Savannah; his father, Josh Cowger of Hahira; two brothers, Christopher Cowger of Richmond, VA, and Aaron Cowger of Hahira; paternal grandparents, Mike and Debbie Cowger of Hahira; paternal grandfather, Clifford Johnson of Concord, CA; maternal grandparents, Harold Morrison of San Antonio, TX, and Judy Foster of Mannsville, OK; an aunt and uncle, Elissa and Michael Hunzicker of Hahira; his other mother, Susan Wainright of Hahira; many cousins; and his beloved dog, Sophie. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Sandra and Gary Opfermann.
A Celebration of Michael's life will begin at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Davis Farm, 3982 Bemiss Knights Academy Road, Valdosta, with a time for sharing memories and stories to follow. The gathering will conclude at 6:00 p.m. Please dress casual, shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops, and be sure to bring a memory to share. Interment will take place in Pleasanton, TX, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Michael would be delighted if you would befriend a stranger, reconnect with an old friend, smile at a baby, thank the person with the thankless job, do one day of volunteer work at a hospice or old age home, talk-just talk-to a homeless person, donate blood, earnestly forgive someone, humbly ask for forgiveness, walk a dog at the animal shelter… Flowers die, kindness is eternal; teach these things to your children and Michael lives on in us forever.
