Michael D. Tolbert, 47, passed away peacefully at his home in Brooks County, Georgia on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Michael was born on November 14, 1969 at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Michael played defensive end for the Wildcats from 1984-1986 under Coach Nick Hyder and was awarded "Super Skinner in 1985 and "Super Cat" and "Defensive Lineman of the Year" in 1986. He also played baseball for Coach Charles Tarpley form 1985-87. Michael was selected as member of the Valdosta High School Sports Hall of Fame. He received a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina and played from 1987-90.
Michael was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, the Lowndes High School Touchdown and Dugout Clubs, in support and love for his son and a proud Kappa Delta "KD" dad. Michael was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and spending time with his wife, children, family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Tolbert, his daughter, Haley Tolbert, his son, Will Tolbert, his parents, B. Gen (Ret) W. Troy and Louie Tolbert, his sisters, Terri Taylor and family all of Valdosta, Tracie (Steve) Harris and family of Musella, GA; his beloved dog, Skeet; his mother in law, Louise M. Greene of Valdosta; sisters in law, Terri (Van) McDowell and family of Valdosta, Donna (David) Skaggs of Syracuse, NY; family friend, Harold Cohen of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his father in law, Dan L. Greene.
Memorial services will be held at 11am, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. David Tart and Rev. Craig Rikard officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Michael D.
