Lucine D. (Del) Garrett

Lucine D. (Del) Garrett, 73, of Hahira, died on Monday, July 27, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Macon, Georgia on May 5, 1936 to the late Clyde and Nettie Brantley Garrett. He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He worked as an aircraft mechanic and served in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the Valdosta Fire Department as a firefighter for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and training hunting dogs. He was a founding member of the Spain Ferry Hunting Club. He also loved to farm and grow thing. Mr. Garret was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Donna Gail and Ashley Jones, and step-daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Ed Wooldridge all of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Ashlin (Josey) Copeland of Valdosta, Logan Jones of Hahira, Casey Copeland Moody of Valdosta and Chance Copeland also of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law, Quincy and Judy Garrett of Macon; sister and brother-in-law, Oleta and Jimmy Bruton of Orlando, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sam P., Jr. and Sarah Flemming of Remerton; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Vera L. Garrett and a sister, Wynona Garrett Moon.

A graveside service for Mr. Garrett will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2009 in the Cat Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles Barden and Mr. Sam P. Flemming, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
