Lee Vermon (Bud) Sowell

December 27, 1927 — January 2, 2010

Lee Vermon (Bud) Sowell, 82, of Remerton died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 27, 1927 in Bonifay, Florida to the late Joseph D. and Eula Rutherford Sowell and had lived in this area most of his life. Mr. Sowell was a member of the Westside Baptist Church where served as a Deacon, a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II and a Mason for more than fifty years. He retired as a foreman with Strickland Cotton Mills and had served as a city councilman, Mayor and dispatcher for the city of Remerton.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Greene Sowell of Remerton, his children and their spouses, Michael Lee and Christy Sowell of Atlanta, Tanja S. and John Brannen of Titusville, Fla., Jeffrey Lee and Dorothy Sowell of Orlando, Fla. his grandchildren, Johnny (Beth) Brannen, Joe (Leila) Brannen, Nicole Alana Lee Gilbert, Jordan Lee Sowell, Sinjon Sowell, Jeffrey Lee Sowell, Corey Lee Sowell, Jeremy Lee Sowell, his twin sister, LaVerne Brown and sister, Iva Lou Curry both of Bonifay, Fla., sisters in law and brother in law, Margaret Davis of Valdosta, Dorothy Stephenson of Waycross, Harris and Jane Greene of Hahira, Ann Greene of Lake Park and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Westside Bapitst Church with Dr. Ernie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Sowell will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the services.
