J. Lundie Smith Iii

Julius Lundie Smith, III age 66, of Valdosta, GA passed away August 20, 2009 at the Langdale Hospice House. Lundie was born November 9, 1942 in Valdosta, Georgia and was the son of the late Julius Lundie Smith, Jr. and Julia Devereaux Smith. He was married for 44 years to the late Sally Terry Smith of Thomasville, Georgia. Lundie graduated high school from Gordon Military High School in Barnesville, GA in 1960. He received his B.A. degree from Mercer University in 1965 before serving in the United States Navy for a number of years. Lundie later received his Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State College in 1975. He spent ten years as a juvenile probation officer for Lowndes County and later retired as the Deputy U.S. Clerk for the United States District Court for Lowndes County.
He is survived by two children, a son; Shawn Patrick Smith and a daughter, Aimee Smith McMillen, and her husband Michael Charles McMillen, Jr. and three granddaughters; Carter Elizabeth McMillen, Crosby Anne McMillen, and Addison Smith McMillen. Lundie was active with the Alzheimer's Association in Valdosta, Hospice of South Georgia, Certified Therapy Dogs of Valdosta, and his Wednesday night gathering with friends at Beef O' Brady's.
The funeral service will be held at Carson McLane funeral home at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2009 with the Rev. Willie Beasley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be given to the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia 1925 Century Blvd #10 Atlanta, GA 30345 or the ACTO program at Park Avenue United Methodist Church located at 100 E.
