Carl Rose, Sr.

December 28, 1965 — July 20, 2020

Carl Rose, Sr., 54, of Valdosta passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at his residence. He was born on December 28, 1965 in Jesup, GA to the late David Lamar and Hilda Faye Perkins Rose. Carl was a member of Azalea City Church of God.
After a standout career on Wayne County High’s baseball team, he played at South Georgia Junior College. After being drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1984, he was drafted two years later by the Pittsburgh Pirates. After a couple seasons in the Pirates’ minor-league, he opted for a career as a professional softball player, where he won numerous honors, such as being named the Player of the Decade for the 1990’s by the United States Slow-Pitch Softball Association. He has also been inducted into the Wayne County Hall of Fame, Georgia USSSA Hall of Fame, USSSA Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame later this year.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Horne Rose, daughter and son in law, Kendyl Castleberry (Dalton), sons, C. J. Rose and Austin Rose, grandsons, Jake Castleberry and Cole Castleberry all of Valdosta, sister and brother in law, Karla Rose Manning and Chris Manning, step father, Marvin Lloyd all of Jesup, nephews and nieces, Jarrod Manning, Kelci Manning, Buck Stubbs, Tanner Stubbs, Jace Manning and Gigi Hester , father in law and mother in law, Jake and Priscilla Horne of Valdosta.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2020 at ten thirty a. m. with Pastor Brett Jarriell officiating at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quitman, GA. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanecares.com. The service will be recorded and may be viewed on the funeral home website. Please be aware and respectful of covid rules and social distancing.
